History of Transportation Justice in Chinatown
Public transportation is essential to Chinatown. To protect and provide public transportation to the community, Chinatown TRIP was established in 1976 as a volunteer advocacy group composed of community members ranging from former MUNI drivers, residents, workers, and civic-minded individuals to maintain and enhance transportation infrastructure in and around Chinatown. Among TRIP’s notable achievements are the Chinatown Park & Ride shuttle program, enhancing bus services including the addition of the 12-Pacific, and pedestrian safety improvements, such as the scramble signals on Stockton Street and much more.
